Reno-Tahoe’s leading curly hair expert creates waves
RENO, NV – With over ten years of experience cutting and coloring curly and wavy hair for over 2,000 guests, Carleen Sanchez is now launching her own salon in the greater Midtown area.
Business is booming, Carleen says. “People are stepping away from the straightening iron, putting down the brush. 65 percent of people have naturally curly or wavy hair, and more of them are learning to embrace their curls. I’m so lucky to be able to help my guests discover new styles and techniques that work for them.”
Carleen’s signature, curl-by-curl method of cutting and coloring curly hair has been developed over ten years and over 10,000 hours of experience and education. She currently holds a long list of certifications; her commitment to curly artistry has earned her more 5-star Yelp reviews than any salon in the Reno-Tahoe area.
“She has changed my life by how amazing she has been as a stylist & transformed my hair. This is the first time ever that I don’t have bad hair days!”

The new salon will be the first location in Northern Nevada that focuses solely on the needs of naturally curly- and wavy-haired people. Guests will be treated to spa-like relaxation, with complimentary scalp, hand and arm massage with every cutting and coloring experience.
Most hair stylists still cut all hair as if it was straight—and even those that do cut curly hair without wetting it, still may not have the experience and training that Carleen offers. “I often have my guests tell me that they have never had their hair cut the way I do it,” she says. “That’s because I have dedicated myself to becoming an expert in what curly and wavy hair really needs to be healthy and beautiful.”
“I am incredibly passionate about being a curly hair artist. Every person and every curl is unique; I adore bringing out my guests’ true curl potential and teaching them how to have amazing, frizz-free hair days.”
In opening this new venue, Carleen now coaches four full-time style residents, offering education, mentorship and training to up-and-coming local curly hair stylists. Even with the new location and extra help, Carleen’s guest list is usually booked several months in advance. She no longer accepts new straight-haired clients, reserving every available spot for women and men who want to learn how to enhance their hair’s natural texture, color and shape.
Ready to let your curls go natural? Carleen’s advice: “Step away from the brush and the straightening iron, and find a stylist who will cut your curls dry, not wet, in their natural curly state. A true curly hair artist can show you how to care for and love your curls—every frizz is just a curl waiting to happen!”
If you do find yourself in the chair at Carleen’s new salon, she says, “I won’t just give you a hair cut and color. I will share with you the tools and techniques to cleanse and care for your hair, and a way to define your curls that won’t involve a straightening iron or a brush.”
